January
5, 2003: "Time to Stick a Fork in It." The final broadcast of

WEB01)

A
Fistful salute to the twang guitar sound. (Production code: WEB07)
The
week of April 8-14, 2003: "The
Best Damn Scores Show, Period."
Unfortunately,
this "best damn show" doesn't have Lisa Guerrero, but it's got
the best damn themes from films like Anatomy of a Murder, Once
Upon a Time in the West, Enter the Dragon, Catch Me If You
Can and Cowboy Bebop: The Movie.
(Production code: WEB08)
The
week of April 21-27, 2003: "Super
Groover Mama Dalai Lama."
Featured
throughout this ep are 10 odd, quirky and sometimes baffling choices for
original opening theme songs. As Tom Jones once famously asked, "What's
a Thunderball?" If Superfly's "Freddie's Dead" is
about "Freddie," then why is it used as a theme for Superfly
hero Priest during the main titles? What do the lyrics in Cowboy Bebop:
The Movie's opening theme, "Ask DNA," have to do with the
movie? (BTW, "Super groover mama Dalai Lama" is a verse from
"Ask DNA.") Also featured are selections from the soundtracks
to About a Boy, Monarch of the Glen, The Two Towers
and Superman: The Movie.
(Production code: WEB09)
The
week of April 28-May 4, 2003: "This
Is a Request, Mr. Radio Man."
The
Fistful listener mailbag is opened once again. Featured are listener
requests for selections from the soundtracks to movies like Chicago,
Frida, Cowboy Bebop: The Movie and To Live and Die in
L.A.
(Production code: WEB10)
The
week of May 26-June 1, 2003: "Kill
My Boss? Do I Dare Live Out the American Dream?"
Exciting
film music cues to help keep you awake during your boring job at the office.
(Production code: WEB11)
The
week of May 26-June 1, 2003: "The
Mailbox Reloaded."
The
Fistful listener mailbag is opened once again. Featured are listener
requests for selections from the soundtracks to movies like The Matrix
Reloaded, Mulholland Drive, Requiem for a Dream and Hedwig and
the Angry Inch. Note: The 100th Fistful of Soundtracks episode
that was recorded onto CD, "The Mailbox Reloaded" is also the
first hourlong Fistful ep. As
of this ep, the length of each ep was shortened from two hours to one
hour to speed up both the production process and the output of new eps,
as well as to cut production costs. (Production
code: WEB12)
The
week of June 2-8, 2003: "Then/Now."
An
old piece by a film composer is followed by a selection from one of his
or her more recent soundtracks. The featured composers include Yoko Kanno,
Danny Elfman and John Williams. (Production code: WEB13)
The
week of June 9-15, 2003: "Scope-ophilia."
Because
2003 marks the 50th anniversary of the introduction of CinemaScope,
this edition of Fistful features music from original scores to
films with great ultra-widescreen cinematography (Spartacus, Close
Encounters of the Third Kind, Rushmore, The Straight Story).
(Production code: WEB14)
The
week of June 16-22, 2003: "Which
One of You Bitches Is My Mother?"
Fistful
host/producer Jimmy plays forgotten movie and TV themes without revealing
until afterward who performed or wrote them. Note: The week this ep
was recorded was the same week Fistful began broadcasting six years
before, so this ep is the sixth anniversary show. (Production code:
WEB15)
The
week of June 30-July 6, 2003: "Recycle
Bin."
The
emphasis is on old, preexisting movie music that has been re-used for
the soundtracks of other movies. But instead of featuring the same old
examples, like the themes from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly,
Peter Gunn, Rocky, Star Wars and Chariots of Fire,
this ep focuses on much less ubiquitous themes, such as the Across
110th Street theme (later recycled as the main title theme for Jackie
Brown) and the Navajo Joe theme (a.k.a. Reese Witherspoon's
"battle cry" music in Election). (Production code: WEB16)
