Escape to New York - A gallery of photos from an October 2005 trip to New York.
"Soda and Pie" - A classic line from the Beastie Boys' "Fight for Your Right (to Party)" video inspired the title of the Fistful of Soundtracks station's hour-long '80s lunchtime block, which focuses on movie and TV themes from the decade of decadence. Also on the "Soda and Pie" page, check out "Cool Things Ignored by Those Never-Ending VH1 Shows About the '80s" and "The Super Bowl Shuffle" translated into Portuguese and then back into English.
You So Fine I Wanna Smack Myself: Jimmy Aquino's Hot 13 - In December 2006, my colleagues at the North Bay Bohemian asked readers to pick 13 of their favorite sexy songs and burn them onto a mix CD for a contest called "the Hot 13 Challenge." Bohemian editor Gretchen Giles invited me to submit my Hot 13, which I've listed on my site.
Jim.Aquino.com's Tribute to Homicide: Life on the Street - A look back at one of my favorite TV series of all time.
A Fistful of Soundtracks Episode Transcripts - Some Fistful eps have been transcribed for your reading pleasure:
"Superman: The Movie." The March 18, 2000 edition of Fistful spotlighted Rhino Records' expanded reissue of John Williams' Superman: The Movie soundtrack and featured an interview with the reissue's producer, film restoration expert Michael Matessino (the Star Wars Trilogy Special Edition soundtracks, Star Trek: The Motion PictureThe Director's Edition).
"A Tribute to New York." The November 11, 2001 edition of Fistful featured music from films and TV shows set in New York City.
"Brilliant Mistake." Featured on this episode from the week of September 8-14, 2003 were selections from great scores to movies that must have been exciting to work on—and the end result is far from a disaster—but the public didn't give two sh**s about these movies when they were released. It wasn't until after their release that these box-office disappointments became better appreciated (The Right Stuff, Out of Sight, Election). The ep was named after Elvis Costello's 1986 song "Brilliant Mistake." (Production code: WEB23)
Live365 Rater Hating - The ratings Live365 users have been stamping on some songs from the "Assorted Fistful" playlist are ridiculous! Take a look.
Holiday Rude: Behind the Scenes of A Fistful of Soundtracks' Holiday Specials - A 2000 chat about the making of the program's Halloween and Christmas specials.
The Making of "Creature Features: A Fistful of Soundtracks Halloween Special 2001" - Notes about Fistful's 2001 Halloween episode.
The Making of "A Fistful of Soundtracks Christmas Special 2001" - Notes about Fistful's 2001 Christmas show.
The Making of "My Big Fat Fistful of Soundtracks Halloween Special" - Notes about Fistful's 2002 Halloween special.
Jim Aquino's Favorites of 2000 - If you asked me what the best film of 2000 was, I'd tell you, "Freaks and Geeks."
Jim Aquino's Favorites of 2001 - Buffy comes back but it turns out she's in hell/Chris Walken dances while waiting in a hotel/Mulholland Drive's love scenes made me say schwing/These are a few of my favorite things...
Film Reviews - Reviews I wrote for the Metro. Some of my opinions have changed since I wrote the reviews:
A-I | J-R | S-Z
Jim.Aquino.com's Mock Movie Posters - Posters for movies that would never see the light of day. A discontinued section of the site.
Intro - Thoughts of the month, listener mail and Fistful episode previews. Another discontinued section of the site.
"One on One with Jimmy Aquino" - I interviewed myself for a bizarre UC Santa Cruz Oral History class assignment.
A Fistful of Soundtracks' Gallery of All-Time Stupid-Ass Callers - Or how I would deal with the public radio equivalent of hecklers.
